Have you ever thought:
“Wow, gas prices have gone up so I doubt I’ll be able to pay my co-payment for therapy BUT I really need to talk about how my boss is threatening to fire me while my partner is incarcerated!!”
Well, the parents that we work with at Equal Shares Parenting have those types of dilemmas each week and we want to ensure that it is never a choice that they have to make. We have always had an income-based fee program at Equal Shares, where the client’s responsibility could be as low as $35 for an hour to work with a fully-licensed therapist. In times like these, even $35 can be a strain. Financial stress is the opposite of our mission as a mental health provider and family support service.
We can’t say no to a teen mother who wants her services but can’t afford to pay her co-payment! We refuse to tell a father he has to choose between the increase in his child support payments or attend therapy.
We implemented a policy where no one who has the inability to pay will be denied services if we have the capacity to take them on. As a small business, we do not have the capacity to offer all of our services for free, but, with help, we can help alleviate the financial burden of mental health care!
